I'm testing hosting my own page let's see where the ride takes us. For now using plain HTLML in text editor.
I'm a mechanical engineer from Colombia, currently living in Porto, Portugal. Learning new things and meeting new people keeps me alive. I also enjoy spending time thinking about life and gaining new perspectives on the human condition
I intend to use this website for me. For writing my thoughts, for documenting DIY projects, learning projects, and probably some photos from my travels. Besides my closest friends maybe this is for you if you are looking for a beginner perspective in how to do certain things.
Here I'm starting my article section :
When I like something, or it catches my attention for whatever reason, I tend to dive really deep. Think about anything, a music artist? You will see me watching every possible interview to understand why the songs were written in a certain way or another. If I suspect that there might be another dot I can connect it to, I'll go deep until I find the connection. Most of this effort ends up being only for self-satisfaction and pretty useless because I don't write about it; let's call it entertainment
Once, I found myself reading about Bruce Lee. His life ended unexpectedly in his thirties. As I was reading, I found out that he had a son who also died in a strange situation. Brandon Lee died in an accident while filming an action movie. Then the question is, why is this related to the last moonrise? Well, Brandon Lee gave an interview about a week before the accident where he mentioned a quote from The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles.
“Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four, five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps 20. And yet, it all seems limitless.”
The quote made a huge impact on me. I thought about reading the book, but then I dismissed it until, on another adventure, I found a gardening blog quoting the same quote. There, I said, "Okay, you have to read the book." I read the book and enjoyed it, with anticipation of this great quote. The quote impressed me to the point I made a tattoo to remind myself of the whole idea of the "countable" life. Another vivid reminder of this is the moonrise, especially from the full moon. I have seen as of today only a handful of those, for sure less than 10.
A place to collect experiences from my life, thoughts, and projects, with the reminder that each of them, in a way, is a moonrise: rare and limited."
